GENERAL NEWS – ISOTRETINOIN (DERMATOLOGICAL) ADDED TO FUNGAL PHARMACOLOGY

Significant interaction with itraconazole

27/03/2015 - A new interacting agent has been added to Fungal Pharmacology: Isotretinoin (dermatological: clinically significant interaction with itraconazole).

One case report describes undetectable itraconazole Cmin two weeks after initiation of systemic isotretinoin (dose not mentoined) in a 21-year old patient with chronic granulomatomous disease (CGD). Failure of itraconazole therapy was suspected. Isotretinoin was stopped and the patient received intravenous voriconazole for 9 months. Complete resolution of infection was not reached. It should be noted that earlier case reports described successful therapy with itraconazole and isotretinoin, although no plasma concentrations were measured.
